My Brother's Husband Vol. 1 by Gengoroh Tagame 352 pp.
I am smitten by this charming graphic novel about a Japanese man coming to grips with his own fear and prejudices about his twin brother's homosexuality, fears that result from Japan's largely closet gay culture. The twin brother has died and his burly Canadian husband comes to visit the brother-in-law he never met. Yaichi, a single dad raising a young daughter, is overwhelmed when the cuddly and lovable Mike arrives and changes their world. The internal conversations Yaichi has about his attitudes and how they are changing are honest and realistic. His daughter, Kana, is refreshingly honest and innocent and comes to adore her uncle Mike. I can't wait to read volume 2.
