Wordbirds

Wordbirds: An Irreverent Lexicon for the 21st Century by Liesl Schillinger  209 pp.

In the 1980s there was a comedy TV show called Not Necessarily the News. That show featured a segment called "Sniglets:any word that doesn't appear in the dictionary, but should." (My favorite was fenderberg: that disgusting clump of ice, snow & slush that accumulates under your car's fenders behind the wheels during the winter months.) This book is a 21st Century version of the sniglets. There are twelve sections ranging from fashion to technology. Some make you laugh out loud while others have you nodding because you know someone like that or have had that experience.
My favorites are
"Freudschade (n.) 'froyd-shah-duh Annoyance at being used continually as a therapist by friends or relatives who have not interest in any conversation that does not directly involve their own issues."
and
"Overdoeuvre (v.) 'o-vur-'durv To eat so many appetizers that you lose your appetite for a meal. [q.v. Canapig]."
