Don't Eat Me! by Colin Cotterill 290 pp.
This is book 13 in the Dr. Siri Paiboun mystery series. Now that 75 year old Dr. Siri is retired from his position as national coroner, he and his best friend Civilai have decided to expand their love of movies into filmmaking. Dr. Siri has written a Lao version of War and Peace and the two of them have smuggled a Panavision movie camera. First they must get the script approved by the Ministry of Culture and figure out how to turn the camera on. Meanwhile a skeleton with a full head of hair is found and Siri assists Phosy, the newly appointed head of police, in the investigation. No spoilers but, the investigation involving endangered animals, smuggling, and corrupt officials nearly get Phosy killed. And the Down's Syndrome couple Geung and Tukta have taken their love story to a whole new level with "afternoon dancing." This is such a fun series with marvelous characters.
