The heirs, by Susan Rieger

When Rupert Falkes dies of cancer at the relatively young age of 65, he leaves behind him an elegant life, an elegant wife, and five successful Princeton-educated sons.   After his funeral, his wife Eleanor is contacted by a woman claiming to have had a relationship with Rupert resulting in two further sons.  The stories of each of these sons, and the women in Rupert’s life, alternate chapters.  Rupert himself had been a foundling, raised in an orphanage and by the kindly vicar that ran it.  It’s a bit of a beach book in some ways, but a satisfying read.  254 pp.
