The physics of everyday things

The physics of everyday things: the extraordinary science behind an ordinary day / James Kakalios, 245 pgs.

This is the perfect example of a book I judged by its cover and then started to read and wondered why I checked it out in the first place.  But then I got into the book and loved it as Kakalios does a wonderful job of walking you thought a typical day and all the fascinating science behind the stuff we all take for granted.  I mean, who isn't interested in knowing how that toaster really works?  How about that pedometer you are wearing (or is included in your phone?).  There are so many scientific wonders that we come in contact with through our daily lives, it is sometimes good to step back and admire them.  Informative and engaging.
