Where Reason Ends: A Novel by Yiyun Li, 170 pages.Li's slim 2019 novel, her sixth book, takes the form of conversations between a writer and her child; the son who is no longer there. The book was written in the months after Li's own son committed suicide. Sad, but not maudlin, a reminiscence and an exploration of the thoughts and feelings we keep hidden. The fictional son says, "to live you have to propagate delusions. . . One is not enough. A few are not."
