My Boyfriend is a Bear, Pamela Ribon and Cat Farris, 167 pages
Bears are, without doubt, my favorite animals, so the title alone was intriguing. The love story between Nora and her bear-friend is sweet and hilarious, full of moments that echo human relationships. Yes, he is indeed, an actual bear, but the difficulties of communication, long term goals, and day to day living are portrayed in such a way that it is easy to see where real life intersects with this work of fiction. I saw a lot of echoes of my own life in Ribon and Farris's work, and the clean and colorful art style belies the seriousness of their story.
