Never Go Back: A Jack Reacher Novel by Lee Child

Never Go Back: A Jack Reacher Novel by Lee Child, 400 pages.

Reacher travels from South Dakota to Virginia to meet up with the commanding officer of the 110th MP Special Unit, his old unit. It's nothing official, or even military-related. He just liked the sound of her voice on the phone, and thought it might be nice to meet. Things go wrong as soon as he arrives on base, and before he can quite figure out what's happening, he has been recalled into service so that he can face homicide charges. It seems a man, who Reacher once interviewed, was beaten and died, years after the beating, from the resultant injuries. Before he died he swore out an affidavit that Reacher was was his assailant. Reacher is also facing a paternity suit which claims he has a daughter from an affair he reputedly had fifteen years ago.
Either Reacher has forgotten large bits of love and mayhem from his past, or someone has read enough of his service record to tell where he was and what he was doing years ago, but didn't read enough of it to see what happened to those who ran afoul of this compentent, capable, not too bothered by emotional restraint giant. Reacher's less brutal than he used to be in the early days, but then he's gotten younger too.
A good solid addition the the Reacher series.
