Ayumi has the unique ability to reunite a living person with a dead person for just one night, during the full moon. There are very specific rules for this process, but since he inherited the ability from his grandmother, he's connected countless people to their lost loved ones, while still holding down a full-time job as a toy designer.
This book follows Ayumi through several episodes related to his supernatural ability, as he questions many of the ideas and emotions that helping these people brings up. It's the second book in this series, though it's not necessary to read the first one to enjoy this one. This type of episodic, gentle, introspective Japanese novel is becoming very popular, and this one is an excellent example if you'd like to read one that has more of a solid through-line of plot.
