You Don't Have to Say You Love Me: A Memoir by Sherman Alexie 457 pp.
This was reviewed by Linda and I mostly agree with her. This is a difficult book because it nakedly exposes a wide range of emotions. Alexie's memoir is a cathartic journey of life with and without his mother who was both a damaged and a remarkable woman. There is repetition of events told in both prose and verse, each time revealing something more about himself and his family. I listened to the audio version which is read by the author. Hearing the parts written in verse are much better when read in the way he intended them. This may not be his best book but it is the most challenging because of the subject and the emotional undercurrents. I like this book a lot.
