The ultimate survivalist story. What if you are stranded in the wilderness, accidentally left behind by your group and you had no way to communicate to home base? You would forage for food and make shelter, right? Now imagine that it is MARS where you are stranded. Luckily Mark Watney is a smart guy. A botanist and a mechanical engineer who can figure things out and fix things. Surviving on Mars is hard but if anyone can do it, he can. But how will he get back to Earth? Will he be able to keep his sanity?
Andy Weir has written a brilliant first novel. I hope he can follow it up with something half this good. This is my favorite book of the year so far.
