Sleeping Giants

Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel  304 pp.

When Rose Franklin was a child she fell through the earth near her home in Deadwood, South Dakota. She was found lying in a giant hand that had been buried under the ground. As an adult Rose Franklin became a scientist recruited for a mysterious project to recover further body parts from the same robot as the hand. Her team is assembled by an unnamed man with connections to the military and government and includes, military pilots, a linguist, and a geneticist. Parts of the alien robot are found all over the world but cause massive destruction as they unbury themselves. Once the robot is operational an incident causes the secret project to become public. More difficulties arise and soon the world is on the brink of World War III. The story is left open for the next installment in The Themis Files series.
