Jim dies while his wife Jane is out of town. She returns to find his body sans head and finds out that he has signed a contract with a cryogenics company and they are preserving him for a new life. She is overcome with grief and anger and tries to get his head back. The book bounces around from chapters about their relationship, chapters about her quest to recover Jim's head and Jim's life in the new world where he discovers the path to new life is to forget everything from the old life.
In some ways, the characters didn't seem true to themselves and the plot is odd and parts don't make sense but it was fun to read. This book doesn't take itself too seriously and there are moments where the characters reveal themselves in little ways that are beautifully done.
