A Load of Hooey by Bob Odenkirk, 139 pages.
This one came out back in the fall, but I first noticed it last Thursday. It was a quick read and fun throughout.
The author is probably best known as the character Jimmy McGill, a.k.a. Saul Goodman, from Breaking Bad, and its spinoff, Better Call Saul, but Odenkirk has also had a long career in comedy. He draws on that here, with this very dry, droll, ridiculous, and funny book. A lot of comedians and comedy writers fall flat when given a book deal, but Odenkirk, and his friends at McSweeneys keep this project on an even keel and deliver a book that is consistently funny.
This book makes me re-evaluate somewhat my perception of the team of David Cross and Bob Odenkirk in Mr. Show. I would go so far as to say that Odenkirk was really the funny one there, but I have read on the internet that David Cross will hunt you down if he thinks you've gotten too close to that truth.
