Sir Charlie: Chaplin, the Funniest Man in the World by Sid Fleischman 255 pages

How many kids have experienced classic Chaplin films? Sure, he was once the biggest star, but that was way back in time. How many silent, black and white films has an average kid seen? Newbery winning author Sid Fleischman enjoys re-introducing some of his heroes from yesteryear. (Escape: The Story of the Great Houdini and Trouble Begins at 8: A Life of Mark Twain). This is an unvarnished but handsomely packaged biography of the great Chaplin. He was loved on film (for many but not all of his films) but not so loved at home. Sadly, he was not very nice to his family members and by the end of his life his ego was unstoppable. (His children were only allowed to see Chaplin films at his home!) Still, his films, The Gold Rush and Modern Times were genius and deserved to be seen by new audiences.
