Winter Ghosts / Kate Mosse 265 p.

A sad, sweet ghost story in which the natural setting plays an important part. Mosse was the author of the 2006 hit Labyrinth, and she returns here to that remote setting in the French Pyrenees. Fred is drifting through the French countryside, attempting to numb his grief from losses in WWI when a blizzard strands him in a tiny mountain village. There he meets the lovely Fabrissa, who quiets his pain but leads him into a deep mystery hundreds of years old. This is a beautifully-made book, with charming illustrations in each chapter heading, and endpapers covered with snowflakes. The story is like snow itself - light but important.
